Challenges in being able to communicate in order to express one’s needs and emotions. This includes being unable to model correct sounds (including very little or delayed “babbling” sounds for young children) or saying full words and sentences.

Stammering, also known as stuttering, is a speech disorder characterised by disruptions in the normal flow of speech. This can come in various forms including repetition or prolongation of sounds, or the inability to say certain words in isolation or a sentence.

Eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties (also known as EDS or dsyphagia) can arise at different points in a child’s journey, including at an early stage through difficulty in breast/bottle-feeding and the initial weaning phase. These challenges can be closely interlinked to communication challenges.

This includes learning disorders which impact a child’s ability to understand spoken words and/or expressive language, at a slower rate than what is expected for their respective age group. Absent early intervention, this can impact a child’s learning potential and social interaction.
